Grants Supporting Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce the following grants recently awarded to the agency:

• MOWAA/Walmart
Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is pleased to announce that the agency has been awarded a 2010 Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA)-Walmart Impact Grant for $15,000 to purchase a brand new Energy Star convection steamer for the commissary. This grant will enable the agency to expand cooking capacity, reduce costs, and enhance energy efficiency.

• Capital One Bank
Capital One Bank generously contributed $812 toward replacing a cargo delivery van. The van is vital to the agency’s mission for it is used to deliver all of our homebound meals to drop-off points where our dedicated volunteers then caringly distribute nutritiously prepared meals to our county’s homebound.

• BJ’s Charitable Foundation
The agency gratefully acknowledges a $5,000 contribution toward the waiting list of the Homebound Meal Delivery Program from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation. Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland truly appreciates BJ’s continued generosity.

• Massey Knakal Charitable Foundation
Thank you to the Massey Knakal Charitable Foundation for a generous $2,000 grant to be used to reduce the number of individuals on our waiting list for the Homebound Meal Delivery Program.

• The Vietnam Veterans Rockland Chapter 33 generously donated $1,090 to the agency, and the American Legion Leo Laders Post 130 generously donated $900 to the agency. Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc. truly appreciates the support of community groups such as The American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans.

• National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Rockland Section
Thank you for a generous donation of $1,000 designated to subsidize the Kosher and Passover Meal program and of $2,000 earmarked for the Ramapo Senior Center. Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is very grateful to NCJW for continued support of the agency since its inception 35 years ago.

• Macy’s Foundation
The agency gratefully acknowledges a $1,000 contribution toward the Homebound Meal Delivery Program from the Macy’s Foundation. Macy’s has generously supported Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland for the past several years.

• Wyeth Pharmaceuticals
Thank you to Wyeth for the very generous $5,000 sponsorship in support of our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Walk to benefit the Homebound meal Delivery Program.

• Dellwood Country Club Foundation
The Dellwood Country Club Foundation generously allocated $1,500 to our agency. The Dellwood Country Club has loyally donated to Meals on Wheels since 2002.

• National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Rockland Section
Thank you for a generous donation of $2,000 earmarked for the Ramapo Senior Center. Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is very grateful to NCJW for continued support of the agency since its inception 35 years ago.

• The Jewish Federation of Rockland County
The Jewish Federation of Rockland County generously allocated a $1,000 to Meals on Wheels for the 2009-10 year. The agency truly appreciates the Federations’ continued support.

• Citizens Bank
Thank you to Citizens Bank Foundation for a generous $3,000 grant to be used to help underwrite our Homebound Meal Delivery Program.

• Entergy
Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce a $10,000 donation from Entergy in support of our community’s homebound and elderly population. The agency truly appreciates Entergy’s generosity and commitment.

• IBM
Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce a $1,000 Community Grant Award for the Music Makers Program from IBM. This grant was made to recognize the volunteer efforts of IBM retiree Denis Riney. We thank Denis for his continued service and for his assistance in securing this grant.

• Wal-Mart
Thank you to Wal-Mart for a $1,000 Community Grant. Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland appreciates Wal-Mart’s continued support.

• Key Bank
Thank you to the Key Bank Foundation for $2,500 in charitable support for the Homebound Program. Key Bank has generously supported Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland for the past several years.

• Special Thanks to Assembly woman Ellen Jaffee and Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski
Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce that funding ($8,500 in total) has been provided by the State of New York through grants administered by the New York State Office of the Aging. The funds will be used for both fitness and cultural diversity programs to benefit our senior centers. Special thanks to Legislators Ellen Jaffee and Ken Zebrowski.

• Rotary Club of Pearl River
The Rotary Club of Pearl River has generously donated $10,000 for a brand new steam kettle for our Commissary. This 60 gallon kettle is a much needed, versatile piece of equipment that can do everything from braise meat to cook pasta! The Commissary is a professionally operated kitchen which produces over 1500 quality meals each day for homebound seniors, center participants, and for various community groups.

• PATH
Meals on Wheels is pleased to announce the receipt of a PATH grant for $3,600 from the Cooperative Extension Association of Rockland County. This generous grant will be used to purchase food for the Homebound Meal Delivery Program.

• TD Bank
The TD Charitable Foundation has generously contributed another $2,500 to the agency’s Homebound Meal Delivery Program. The agency truly appreciates TD Bank’s continued support.

• United Way of Rockland County’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board.
Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc. has been selected to serve as a Local Service Organization and has been approved for a $5,000 grant for served meals.

• Wal-Mart/MOWAA
Meals on Wheels Programs and Services of Rockland has been awarded a grant of $7,000 from the Meals On Wheels Association of America and Wal-Mart Foundation to Cure Senior Hunger. The grant comes at a time when the Agency, faced with budget cuts at all levels, is struggling to meet the needs of the County’s homebound population. “We are very grateful for the MOWAA/Wal-Mart Foundation Cure Grant , as it will help alleviate these burdens for Meals on Wheels in Rockland and help us better serve our seniors,” said Barbara Kohlhausen, Executive Director. As a result of the grant, the Meals on Wheels estimates that 10 individuals will come off the waiting list and receive meals for approximately eight months.
